Veneer (2022)
Star-Crossed (2023)
Star-Crossed Jr. (2023)
Critical Success (2024)
This script was written during pre-production of my final project for Multimedia Practicum, a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired short film titled "Critical Success". All characters are original and written for their respective actors. Intended to be satirical, the narrative follows an unprepared DM and their group of friends as they start a new campaign. The setting switches between the real world of the players and the fantasy world of their characters, contrasting expectation with reality.
This script began as an adaptation of "Star-Crossed" for younger audiences, as it was to be staged at FAU Theatre Lab's New Play Festival. Though, it ended up being quite the departure from the original and able to stand on its own narratively. It follows a young couple, Bee and Sasha, as they grapple with the future of their relationship after high school. It implements excerpts from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to mirror the the teens' forbidden romance.
In my senior year at FAU High School, I was selected to participate in a series of intensive playwriting workshops led by the FAU Theatre Lab through the LabRATS program. This script was the end product of the workshops, having gone through many reworks and revisions. I had the opportunity to work with professional actors, playwrights, and my fellow peers who provided valuable guidance and feedback throughout the writing process. The narrative follows Isabel and Joseph on the morning after a one-night stand.
"Veneer" is my first screenplay, written for my scriptwriting class to be the length of a TV pilot or short film. It follows Han, a transgender boy, as he faces discriminatory bullying and a strained family life. He finds solace in his friends and the queer community after attending his first pride parade.
